Living with the Five Elements: EARTH

Join Justin Perreault for the 3rd installment in a series of five special events. This workshop will focus on the element of Earth as it pertains to the Five Element Theory system of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Five Elements Theory of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water creates a framework with which we can balance our approach to health, habits, dietary choices, seasonal change, and life goals/intentions, to keep with the flow and cycles of nature.

The Earth Element is associated with the late Summer (Indian) season and is connected to the Spleen/Stomach. Said to be a time of year that we dig deep to ignite our nurturing nature by taking care of self and others. The earth itself provides our center and represents our mother. Experiential in design, the class will have lectures as well as active practice in Qigong exercises that heal and strengthen the Spleen, Stomach and Qi.

We will go over the basic function of the Spleen/Stomach in TCM theory. Learn to find and stimulate specific Acupoints to ground, root, and connect.  Discuss dietary/lifestyle recommendations to address imbalance of the Earth element, while enjoying an herbal tea specifically for spleen and stomach health. How to work with late summer season to avoid disharmony while making the best use of these transitional weather patterns. All of this will culminate into a knowledge that will help you develop a keen sense of your body and its needs through the changing seasons.

Drop-ins are welcome. Save the dates for the next installments! November 6: Metal; January 15: Water. All sessions are $35 in advance and $40 on the day of the class. The times are from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
