It's soulful and wistful and it smells like salt air and fresh-cut grass... It's the ephemeral combination of asana and song, movement and music. Join Marcia Hathaway and Penn Johnson for the next installment of live music at the lighthouse. It's unplugged so you can plug in, it's live tunes so you can tune in, it's sound so you can listen to the rhythm of your heart and your soul. Class begins at 8:15 and is still generosity-based and every penny is for The Anchor Chain Fund - promoting true embodied change.
“A transcending, groovy acoustic set that will open your heart, calm your mind, and ignite your soul.”
— Ginger Boormeester, Roots Yoga
Penn Johnson is part of a dying breed. A storyteller by nature and a folksinger by trade, he's chiseled a genre dubbed SoulFolk Storytelling inspired by talkin' blues, soulful lyrics, mind/body meditation, & yoga. He's spent the last couple of years on the road telling stories and entertaining a myriad of audiences.
Amidst timeless, groovy, & funkadelic acoustic songs, Penn's stories give stream-of-consciousness vignettes of his experiences –– ranging from hitch-hiking in Australia to death threats in Pennsylvania –– and call for a return to a peaceful existence.
In a world of distraction, fear, and hate, these stories bind us together with splashes of humor, sarcasm, inquiry, hope, and love reminding us of our collective consciousness.
Penn plays plays his songs for everyone and every occasion accompanied by cajon/djembe, stand up bass, fiddle, dobro, or whoever else is right for the gig. He's currently working on his second full-length solo album 'Experiencing Turbulence' due out this summer.
Penn's joined forces with the March Against Monsanto, Bernie Sanders, and all sorts of musicians since he hit the road. He plays most of his shows on a Seagull Natural Elements guitar and urges others to practice stewardship toward the earth in their everyday lives.
