Living with the Five Elements: METAL

Join Justin Perreault for the 4th installment in a series of five special events. This workshop will focus on the element of Metal as it pertains to the Five Element Theory system of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Five Elements Theory of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water creates a framework with which we can balance our approach to health, habits, dietary choices, seasonal change, and life goals/intentions, to keep with the flow and cycles of nature.

The Metal Element is associated with the Lungs/Colon in the body and the emotions of grief, loss, letting go. The Fall season represents the Metal elements as one can bear witness to the leaves falling from the trees and the letting go of the warmth of summer.

Experiential in design, the class will have lecture as well as active practice in Qigong exercises that heal and strengthen the Lungs, Colon, and Qi. Breathing, respiration, inhalations, and exhalations are ways in which we connect to the movement of qi in the body and all around us.

Herbal teas, handouts, and an in-depth question and answer session are integral to this class.We will go over the basic function of the Lungs/Colon in TCM theory. Learn to find and stimulate specific Acupoints to take in, receive, expel, and let go.  Discuss dietary/lifestyle recommendations to address imbalance of the Metal element, while enjoying an herbal tea specifically for lung and colon health. How to work with Fall to avoid disharmony while making the best use of these cool, crisp days and nights. All of this will culminate into a knowledge that will help you develop a keen sense of your body and its needs through the changing seasons.
